Why do I need to see a dentist?

Prevention is always better than cure, which is why it’s important for us to examine your teeth and gums at least twice a year. We can spot potential problems like the early stages of decay or gum disease before they have a chance to worsen. Ignoring an issue, such as a small cavity, can often result in more extensive and costly treatment being needed later on.

Your dentist can also identify if your brushing routine at home needs some improvement. You’ll receive plenty of practical guidance on how to clean effectively and protect your smile from future issues.

Check-Ups

What happens during a check-up?

During your regular appointments, we thoroughly examine and assess your teeth, gums, and mouth. We check for signs of damage, decay, infection, bite problems, and any other concerns. Crucially, we also carefully screen your mouth for any early symptoms of oral cancer. At some appointments, we may also take digital X-rays to get a more detailed view of your teeth and jawbone.

We will always ask if you’ve had any problems since your last visit, so you can raise any concerns you might have. To help you keep your teeth in tip-top condition at home, we will advise on the best cleaning techniques and share tips on diet, alcohol, and tobacco consumption.

If we find anything that requires treatment, we will clearly explain your treatment plan, including the recommended course of action and the expected costs.
