What does the treatment involve?

We begin by carefully removing any areas of decay or any old fillings from your tooth before thoroughly cleaning the area.

We take accurate digital images and impressions of your tooth, which are used to create your custom inlay or onlay. This is then sent to a dental laboratory to precision-make your restoration. We fit a temporary restoration onto your tooth to protect the cavity between appointments.

Once your final inlay or onlay is ready, we check it for a perfect fit and optimum comfort before permanently fixing it into place using a strong dental adhesive. If clinically necessary, metal options can be carried out under an NHS band 3, or you can choose to have this done privately for more aesthetic results.

Frequently asked questions

Inlays and onlays are made from hard wearing materials, including porcelain and composite resin, and if aesthetics is not an issue, a variety of different metals can be used to provide a particularly durable restoration.
