What is dental hygiene treatment?

Our dental hygiene treatment is designed to actively protect your oral health and prevent common issues, including gum disease and tooth decay. Hygienists are experts in removing plaque and tartar from your teeth, especially in the places that are hard to reach with a toothbrush at home, to keep your smile in the best possible condition.

Regular hygiene appointments are considered the most effective way to maintain healthy teeth and gums. Your visit includes a comprehensive professional ‘scale and polish’ treatment to clean away plaque and give your mouth an incredibly healthy feel. Your mouth is also checked for early signs of dental issues, including gum disease, so we can treat any problems before they have the chance to get worse.

Our team

What does dental hygiene treatment involve?

  1. Dental Hygiene

    Discussion

We start your appointment with a relaxed chat about your current oral hygiene routine and any concerns you have about your teeth and gums. We are never judgemental, only friendly and helpful. We take time to explain the treatment process, make sure you feel comfortable, and answer any of your questions before we begin.

  2. Dental Hygiene

    Scaling

When you are ready, we begin the scaling part of your treatment. We carefully remove stubborn deposits of plaque and tartar from all surfaces of your teeth, using specialised instruments. We pay extra attention to the areas that are difficult to reach with a toothbrush at home.

  3. Dental Hygiene

    Polishing

After the deposits have been removed, your oral health is instantly improved. We professionally clean and polish your teeth to make them look and feel noticeably smoother, cleaner, and brighter, giving you a well-deserved boost of confidence.

  4. Dental Hygiene

    Advice

At the end of your appointment, we give you some professional advice tailored to your needs. This includes guidance on the best techniques for brushing, flossing, and using interdental brushes, if appropriate. We will also advise you on the ideal time to book your next hygiene appointment.

Fluoride varnish

We can apply fluoride varnish to the surfaces of young teeth, strengthening the enamel and providing protection from decay. It is a quick and pain-free treatment, usually put on teeth when they first emerge.

Fissure sealants

Fissure sealants are safe plastic coatings applied to the biting surfaces of teeth. They are designed to prevent bacteria and food particles from settling in any deep fissures and causing decay. Fissure sealants are fast and easy to apply, and normally given to children whose permanent teeth are starting to emerge.
