Your first visit - what to expect

We believe your first appointment is the foundation for a healthy, lasting relationship with your dentist. It’s not just about checking your teeth – it’s about understanding your goals, concerns, and long-term oral health needs. We welcome you to ask questions and discuss any worries — your comfort and clarity are our priority.

During your initial consultation, we will:

  • Conduct a full oral examination
  • Take X-rays and clinical photographs (if needed)
  • Discuss your medical history
  • Offer a comprehensive treatment plan, including all available options and costs

X-rays & dental photographs

X-rays are essential for detecting issues beneath the surface, such as tooth decay between teeth, bone loss, or infections. We always follow strict safety protocols and only take X-rays when clinically necessary.

Intraoral and extraoral photos help us clearly explain your treatment needs, document your progress, and communicate effectively with dental laboratories. We also love being able to show you before-and-after photos with your results from cosmetic work. Photos also give you a visual understanding of your treatment, making your experience more informed and empowering.

Gum health

Your gums form a protective barrier that keeps bacteria out of your bloodstream. Bleeding gums are never normal – they are often an early sign of gum disease.

We focus on preventing and treating gum disease through:

  • Oral hygiene education
  • Professional cleaning by our Dental Hygienist
  • Regular reviews of your gum health

Visit our Hygiene page to learn more about gum care and deep cleaning treatments.

Missing teeth

When teeth are missing, the remaining ones may shift, tilt, or become overworked, affecting your bite and jaw health. Replacing missing teeth helps restore not just your smile but also function and balance.

We offer several options to restore missing teeth, including dental implants, bridges and dentures. Your dentist will guide you through the best options based on your needs and budget.

Even if you have no teeth, you still need a dentist!

Patients with full dentures or implants still benefit from annual dental check-ups. These appointments help us:

  • Check for oral cancer
  • Ensure your dentures fit comfortably
  • Monitor your jawbone health
  • Identify signs of general illness that can appear in the mouth

Oral cancer screening

Every routine dental exam includes a comprehensive screening for early signs of oral cancer. We also look for indicators of other health conditions that can present in the mouth, such as vitamin deficiencies, diabetes, or autoimmune disorders.

Early detection saves lives, and we are trained to recognise changes before symptoms develop.

Children’s dentistry

We believe in building confidence in our youngest patients. Regular dental visits from an early age help create lifelong positive habits and reduce dental anxiety.

Our children’s care includes oral hygiene and diet advice, education on acid erosion and sugar, and fissure sealants and fluoride applications to prevent decay. We can send referrals for orthodontic treatment, which is free for children under 18 (NHS criteria apply).

We recommend regular visits to the dentist to set the foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles.
