What is CEREC?

CEREC is an innovative dental restoration procedure that allows us to design, create, and fit ceramic restorations using advanced 3D scanning and computer-aided design right here in our practice, eliminating the need for an external dental laboratory. With CEREC, we can produce a new crown, veneer, onlay, inlay, or even a small bridge within hours, a process that would normally take two weeks or more!

What does the CEREC process involve?

To prepare for your CEREC restoration, we carefully remove any damaged material or an old filling, and if necessary, remove a thin layer of enamel from your tooth, exactly as with a traditional restoration. Instead of taking a physical impression, we use a digital camera to capture a highly accurate 3D image of your tooth.

This digital image is processed by the sophisticated CEREC software, which creates a detailed 3D model. This model is used to design your dental restoration to your exact specifications, ensuring a perfect fit and appearance.

Once we are completely happy with the final design, it is sent to our on-site milling machine. This machine carves your new crown or other restoration from a solid, tooth-coloured ceramic block – a process that typically takes between 6 and 30 minutes.

When your restoration is ready, we check the fit and then securely attach it to your prepared tooth. With CEREC, the total time taken to make and fit your restoration reduces from around two weeks to under two hours—you can enjoy your new smile straight away!
